It looks like even The Cobb in Lyme Regis couldn’t handle Timothée Chalamet’s charm and good looks! The beloved breakwater was so overwhelmed, it now needs urgent repairs!
It was not long ago that the American actor was seen in Lyme Regis, filming for the upcoming Willy Wonka movie. The iconic area known as The Cobb was back then transformed into a snowy scene, complete with actors, vintage cars, and a boat named Lydia Eva.
These days, however, The Cobb is facing some significant challenges. The initial estimate for the infilling and grouting repairs came in higher than anticipated, but the council still aims to begin the work in October. A larger project to strengthen and stabilize The Cobb, initially scheduled for winter 2025, might be postponed until April 2026 due to funding challenges.
It was previously reported that the £3 million project to preserve the breakwater beyond 2044 was at least £2 million short. Following a storm in March 2023, recent works included patching the surface of the top wall where grouting had been lost. Despite these challenges, The Cobb remains open to the public.
It’s clear that maintaining such a historic structure requires significant effort and resources. Let’s hope it gets fixed up soon so it can keep standing strong for all the future stars.
