Town aims to break ‘ghost’ world record

Brewery Square has unveiled a spook-tacular week of Halloween events, headlined by an audacious attempt to break the world record for the largest ghost gathering.

The celebration, aptly titled “Ghouls Just Wanna Have Fun,” promises to be a hauntingly good time for families, friends and Halloween enthusiasts alike.

The highlight of the week is set for Thursday, October, 31 when hundreds of costumed ghosts will converge in Brewery Square.

The aim is to break the current world record of 560 ghosts in one location.

The attempt is part of a Halloween fun day organised by Discover Dorchester.

With the excitement building, Brewery Square could make history with the largest gathering of ghosts ever recorded across the globe.

This record-breaking ghost gathering will fill the square with an army of the undead, followed by a live band, dancing, entertainment and spooky themed competitions.

The entire week leading up to the big day will also be packed with a variety of eerie activities, ensuring there is something for everyone with arts and crafts, workshops, circus skills and a ghost hunt.

Tara Bailey, centre manager at Brewery Square said: Halloween is one of the highlights of the Brewery Square event calendar and what better opportunity to have another go at this world record breaking attempt.”

Last Halloween the group attempted to break the world record, but despite 204 people attending, they fell short of the record which was hampered due to bad weather.

However, friends and families all joined each other in the square dancing and singing along to music as they waited for the count to get underway.

The previous record was set in 2017 by Mercy School Mounthawk in Tralee, Ireland.

Tara added: “Last year, we came so close to breaking the record, but we’re determined to make history this time.

“We can’t do it alone, we need everyone to join in and help to make occasion even more ghostly. Make sure to follow our social media for more details.’’
