Two people “seriously injured” in crash

The A354 ridgeway was closed both ways due to a crash involving two vehicles, a blue Nissan Juke and a Ford Mondeo, from the Football Ground Roundabout to the A353. 

Police, ambulance and the fire service were on the scene, with closures in place just after 10am. 

Two people suffered serious injuries according to police, whilst firefighters used equipment to rescue a person from a vehicle who has been put into care of the paramedics. Two people have been taken to hospital. 

The road was closed for just over two hours and was reopened at 12.15pm, a police spokesperson confirmed. 

Police Constable Mark Palmer of the Dorset Police Traffic Unit said: “The driver of the Nissan Juke, a 31-year-old woman from the Burton-on-Trent area was conveyed by land ambulance to Dorset County Hospital, whilst the driver of the Ford Mondeo, a female, was also conveyed to Dorset County Hospital by land ambulance.”

A spokesperson for Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called to the A354 Bincombe Down at 10.10am this morning (April 25) following a two vehicle road traffic collision.

“Two crews from Dorchester attended, and firefighters used hydraulic cutting equipment to free one casualty into the care of the ambulance service. Our stop was at 11.03am.”

A “Stop” message refers to a message saying that the situation at an incident has been contained, and no further assistance from the fire service is needed. 

A spokesperson for Dorset Police Traffic Unit at the time of the crash said: “A354 Ridgeway closed between the Football Stadium Roundabout Dorchester and the Jurassic Roundabout, Weymouth due to a serious injury collision.”

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: “We received a report at 10am on Friday, April 25 of a two-vehicle road traffic collision on the A354 Weymouth Relief Road.

“Officers are in attendance alongside the ambulance and fire services, and road closures are in place.

“Two people are reported to have sustained injuries believed to be serious but not life threatening.”

A spokesperson for the fire service said: “The A354 between Broadwey and Dorchester is currently closed in both directions – please avoid the route.”

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) said: “We were called at 10.01am on Friday, April 25 to a road traffic collision near Weymouth.

“We sent two double-crewed land ambulances, an operations officer and a doctor to the scene and we conveyed two patients by land ambulances to Dorset County Hospital.”
