Fogden ‘unbelievably proud’ as Magpies ‘outplay’ rivals

The Magpies coach was speaking to the club’s social media team after the game and said he was “unbelievably proud” of the players against a “really strong side” near the top of the league.

He felt his team “kind of outplay[ed]” the Poole and created enough chances to win the game and stresses his side’s resilience and belief after falling 1-0 behind to Shaq Gwengwe’s 53rd minute strike.

Fogden said: “First and foremost, just unbelievably proud of of the effort that the boys put put in. The togetherness that they’re showing at the moment is fantastic. And I just thank them at the moment after every game because what they’re giving for the cause is really, really high levels and against a really strong side who are second or third to kind of outplay them and and do what they’ve done today, create the chances that they did was was just all credit to them.”

He added: “Their resilience has been very, very good again. Mentally they’re very strong at the moment. They [Poole] went 1-0 up and I didn’t feel that it was too negative.

“I think everyone knows right now that they can get back into games and they can score goals.

“It wasn’t soon after that we got the goal back and then from there it looked like it was only going to be one team to actually go on and win it, but they defended well at the end.”

Fogden also singled out goalscorer Marcus Daws who restored parity five minutes after Gwengwe’s opener for his third goal in four games.

On Daws he said: “He’s working really hard. He’s bought into what we’re trying to achieve here now. The work rate is the main thing.

“I had this conversation before my first game and I said, I don’t care who scores. I don’t care what you do but the minimum you give is 100 per cent and you help your teammates out. We’re working, we’re building bit by bit for for certain players and he’s picking up so many good spaces now. He’s getting in the right positions to score and and take these chances and it’s showing in his performances and he’s doing very, very well.”

There was also praise for new keeper Monty Marriott and George Chubinidze who both made their home debuts during the game.

Fogden called Marriott “so solid” and described Chubinidze’s energy as “so infectious”.

Fogden also highlighted Jack Dickson’s switch to centre back as key factor in the club’s recent good form.

He added “I mean the last three, four games JD’s played there and he’s been outstanding. I can’t really change it.

“It’s one of those where everyone who comes in and whatever position it is, they’re buying into what we’re doing and they’re putting in good performances.

“He’s been extremely solid as the whole back four have. You’ve got Pards (Luke Pardoe) at left back, who’s again playing so well. Everyone’s just working hard for each other.”

The Magpies boss also praised the fans who were “brilliant” and that the players “deserve” that backing after their recent performances.

On his own first home game in charge, he said he “really enjoyed it” and insists that when his side play like that they are “as good as any team in the league”.

Next up is the Dorset Senior Cup final against Weymouth on Tuesday night at the Avenue. Kick off is at 7.45pm.

“Yeah, no, definitely. The fans were brilliant today. Um, and the players deserve that because of the the performances. We’ve had a lot of away games. Uh, and because of the performances and and what they showed out there today, they deserve to be got behind and and the fans stood up to that and and they gave them another boost with their energy as well. Um, so just all round very, very pleased.”

“Yeah, no, I really enjoyed it. Um, again, the crowd, the the players, what they’re giving me at the moment, it’s it’s just so enjoyable to watch. Um, and again, what I said earlier, I thank them for for their efforts and their performance because when they play like that, they’re they’re as good as any team in the league.”
