After building a comfortable lead, Dorchester fell to a spirited comeback by Wimborne, losing to the last kick of the game in the Counties 2 Tribute Ale Dorset & Wilts South championship.
An early try by No8 Steve Tucker converted by Jamie Morgan was soon matched by an unconverted try from the hosts.
Dorchester were getting the better of the forward battle and it wasn’t long before winger Matt Fry ran in the first of his two tries. Morgan adding the extras.
Two converted tries from the hosts saw the lead change hands again. The visitors fought back, Fry’s second try, converted by Cohen Emery on his return to Dorchester, and an unconverted try by scrum half Jack Hayward gave Dorchester a seven point lead at the break.
Dorchester started the second period brightly, debutant Khaya Msengana crossing for the visitors’ fifth try.
Morgan converted and then added a penalty to stretch the lead to seventeen points. Dorchester however, were unable to add to their score while Wimborne crossed for three tries, one of which was converted.
With the scores tied and the clock ticking down Wimborne were awarded a penalty which was cooly converted to win the game. Dorchester had to go home with the minor consolation of two bonus points.
The defeat means that Dorchester have won one and lost one in their two games of the season so far at sit fourth inthe table courtesy of the bonus points picked up in defeat against Wimborne.
Next up for the club is a trip to play Swanage & Wareham II on Saturday, October 4.
