Bockhampton Lane in the village of West Stafford near Dorchester, will close between its junctions with West Stafford Road and Knapwater, a distance of around 880m.
The closure is needed in order to comply with health and safety regulations which require the provision of safe working areas and to minimise likelihood of danger to highway users as works are carried out.
The road is due to be closed between the hours of 9am to 4pm from Tuesday, December 2 to Friday, December 5.
AG Tree Services Ltd will carry out the urgent tree works on the highway.
The alternative diversion route, which will be sign posted will take motorists along Bockhampton Lane, Ilsington Road, Watery Lane, C33, C82, West Stafford By-pass and West Stafford Road
